VisiOn Shattered

In this artwork, Mitchell Van Dis reflects on his journey with vision loss. “Vision Shattered” is an expression of his personal struggle and resilience. The layered wood around the “eyes” creates a chaotic depth, symbolizing the inner turmoil and isolation he experienced after losing the sight in his right eye. However, in the midst of this chaos, there are fluid forms that represent her search for connection. These elements strive to break free from the depths, illustrating that even when the most direct paths are blocked, there are always other ways to connect. The sides of the glasses in the work remind us that connection is not limited to one sense or one way of seeing. Mitchell’s work conveys a profound message: while sight may be limited, the ability to create meaningful relationships and experiences is unlimited.
